What is the difference between barnwood and rough sawn?
Barnwood has been reclaimed from a barn or building and can be decades old. We don’t usually stain barnwood but instead simply finish it with a sealer and lacquer so that it’s natural patinas show through. Rough sawn wood is a new douglas fir that has been circle sawn for that rustic look. Newer wood takes stain really well so we prefer rough sawn when building a piece that has a uniform, stained look to it.

Do you apply finishes to your furniture?
We use 2 coats of sand sealer and 1 coat of pre-catalyzed lacquer on each piece unless requested otherwise. Our outdoor furniture is finished with 2 coats of an exterior stain.

What forms of payment do you accept?
Cash, checks and all major credit cards.

Can we buy reclaimed wood from you?
We buy our lumber from a local business, just up the road. Feel free to give Montana Rustic Lumber a call at 406-763-9033.

Where does your wood come from?
The reclaimed wood comes from old barns taken down in Montana, Idaho and Wyoming. The barns are between 100 and 150 years old. The species are generally pine and fir. We occasionally come across and use other species. Most of the wood has been salvaged from industrial structures such as old factories, warehouses, canneries, bridges, grain elevators, trestles, sawmills, and water towers.

How sustainable is the supply of reclaimed wood?
There is a lot of speculation on this topic and nobody really knows how many buildings are left and when they may be dismantled. There will always be used wood, though its sizes and quality will change.

Can you handle the design for our project?
All of our furniture is designed and built on-site in our workshop. Our team of industry experts has decades of experience, and our efficient processes enable us to offer quality, one-of-a-kind furniture at affordable prices.

What kind of lead times do you have?
Lead times vary depending on the season. During the summer they often run about 8 weeks; at other times during the year they average about 6 weeks. If we receive a commitment in a timely manner we can usually complete a project within a time frame that is agreeable to the customer. Custom projects can take anywhere from 22 to 24 weeks after drawings have been approved.

What is the process for creating custom furniture?
There are many questions when it comes to creating a one of a kind piece of furniture, barn door, built in piece, etc. The most common is “what does this process look like?” We develop a quote based on your needs and style preferences at no cost to you. Once the quote is agreed upon, we require a deposit of ⅔ down before we start design and production, with a final payment prior to pick up or delivery.

Can I buy someone a gift certificate for your store?
Absolutely! Call us at 406-624-9677 and we will arrange that for you.
